September 2001:
Danish Paddle Steamer Hjejlen

The Danish paddle steamer Hjejlen was built in 1861 at the Baumgarten and Burmeister shipyard in Copenhagen and is still in service today on the Silkeborg Lakes one hundred and forty years later. Hjejlen is 85 ft long and has a coal fired boiler and an oscillating steam engine.

Kingswear Castle returned to service in 2026 after the second part of a major rebuild which is designed to set her up for the next 25 years. The Paddle Steamer Kingswear Castle Trust is now fund raising for future rebuilds. You can read more and how you can possibly help here.
