The new boiler is almost complete. Note the small handhole in the back end for removing boiler mud, the boiler door on the side and the lifting lugs on the top. The arrangement of the lagging is as on the 1961 boiler.
The front of the boiler with the new smoke box attached. The valves shown from the top to the bottom are: the scumming off valve for removing scum from the top of the boiler water, the main boiler water feed non return valve half way down and at the bottom the blow down valve for blowing water out of the boiler and overboard if the water level needs to be lowered.
Chris emerging from inspecting the inside of the furnace with Alan. The mounting on the right hand side of the boiler is for the auxilliary boiler feed water. The furnace door has been removed from the old boiler and has found a second life, with pride of place, attached to the new one. The smoke box doors have yet to be fitted so the ends of the smoke tubes can clearly be seen leading into the smoke box from whence the smoke goes up to the funnel.
